Our Divine Download for February 8 is Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. from the Healing Cards with the message "Mercy is a rare word, one hardly spoken. What are merciful actions? Not judging another; speaking with kind words; thinking compassionate thoughts about others. May acts of mercy come your way." It is really easy to say that mercy does not exist in our society anymore, or is so rare that it is practically extinct. Why? Because we have been conditioned to judge. Now to be fair, humans are naturally conditioned to judge and judgement doesn't have to be a bad or negative thing. But reactionary judgement, regurgitated judgement divisive judgement, overly critical judgement are absolutely negative things and that is exactly the type of judgement that has been shoved down our throats over the course of the past several years. Others do not have to be wrong in order for you to be right. Being right isn't a goal, or it shouldn't be. Especially not when it comes to opinions. Our society has become quick, exceptionally quick to judge others for having opposing opinions. There is no room left for mercy when we do so. Mercy is contagious. Mercy begets mercy (and a whole host of other positive things) so if we want to experience mercy ourselves, if we want to see more mercy in this world, it all begins with us being merciful in our daily interactions. Much of that mercy comes down to choosing (and it is absolutely a choice) not to judge. It has become harder and harder not to do so when we live in an age of constant information overload. We have unconsciously developed the belief that because SO much information isn't just out there, but really in our faces at any given time, that we understand people's motives and character through their words or their actions and the tough reality is that is never true. Fun fact: people often aren't aware of and don't understand the impetus behind their own words and actions! Just as we do not always understand why we feel things as strongly as we do. We're just being asked to lean into considering a softer, more merciful approach to life, which we can most easily achieve by being really honest with ourselves about our own judgments are the motivations underlying them (which often times are more uncomfortable than our assumptive judgments).
