Hope Will Carry You

From the little momentary innocent hope of the young child for treats or toys, to the profound hope of adults for meaning and purpose, we all hope. What you place your hope in will set the direction of your life. Whether it’s hope in a philosophy, a person, a dream, a location, an experience, or anything else, your life will be shaped by what you place your hope in. Your hope shapes the way you live. Your hope causes you to make the decisions that you make. A lack of hope causes you to feel stuck and de-motivated. Confident hope makes you decisive and courageous. Wobbly or hope causes you to be timid and indecisive. Hope is not just something you do with your brain. You always live your hope in some way. Your life personifies your personal hope. We can clearly see what it looks like in those who have truly given up all hope. Hope is meant to be a pivotal part of our lives. Hope is one of our greatest motivators. As the image on the card suggests, hope is also an umbrella that can shelter us from the proverbial rain and storms in our lives. But the thing about an umbrella is that you have to open it in order for it to be a useful and effective tool. Much like you have to make the conscious decision to embody hope in order to actively choose it, actively choose to work with it, and allow it to provide us protection from the proverbial rain. Hope always includes an expectation and an object. Hope that does not address your needs isn’t ultimately very hopeful. You place your hope in your mechanic only if he has the ability to fix what’s broken on your car. The theology of hope is quite simple. There are only two places to put your hope: You rest the hope of your life in the hands of the divine, your Creator, God, the universe or however you label source energy, or or you look to the creation, aka your mere existence, for hope. Hope is often a dance between believing in something that is bigger than us and believing in what is within us, which is another way to say believing in ourselves. Ultimately, hope is an inside job. Because when you choose to carry hope, hope will absolutely carry you!
