Moderation Through Mindfulness

Our Divine Download for April 29, 2026 is Moderation from the Oracle of the Fairies with the message "Is there something you know you shouldn't be eating? Try to eat mindfully and healthily - although the fairies say that a little bit of you fancy is fine!" It's one of everyone's favorite cards! (insert audible groans and eye rolls here!) Here's the thing: whenever we are told to make any type of dietary changes, we already know what we need to be doing differently. We already know what the message is referencing. It is not exactly front page headline news or rocket science that we should be practicing moderation with all things that we ingest (not just what we eat!) So if you have been going hard and heavy in any one category, it's likely time to meter that a little bit, maybe consider taking a little bit of a break, or perhaps adding something into your diet to pacify your need to have been going hard and heavy for that thing that maybe is less than ideal and not super healthy. So often we look at dietary changes as needing to be rigid and restrictive, and that simply is not the best approach to take. Instead of looking at what you need to cut back on, cut out, or do away with, look for where you can add additional choices and supplements into your diet. It is far more comfortable to add something than it is to take things away. Our egos sort of flip out and throw a tantrum and lead us into self sabotage when we restrict them or take things away from what we're currently doing. But when we add things, usually all is quiet on the egoic front. Moderation is ultimately about mindful consumption which is a wonderful overall practice. We tend to be mindless consumers which is why we will eat the entire box of cookies or bag of chips and then be confused as to how that happened. This is also the reason that the Amazon driver shows up at our house as frequently as they do. The more you can pause, take a breath, and lean into being mindful, conscious, and aware of what you are consuming, the easier moderation becomes. In the wake of mindfulness, moderation is a no-brainer.
