The woman featured on this card is Pamela Colman Smith who was an accomplished illustrator, writer, and occultist. She illustrated every single card in the Rider-Waite Tarot deck (this is the most popular tarot deck in the world and what most associate with tarot itself), but was only paid a pittance for her work. Despite the Rider-Waite tarot deck being the best-selling tarot deck of all time, Ms. Smith died nearly penniless and was not even given credit for her contribution until very recently - almost 100 years after her death! Because she had no descendants, there was no one to five reparations on her behalf. However, we can give her restoration of the ancestral variety. Ancestral restoration is the poetic healing of ruptures created by colonial ways of knowing and being.
